She first saw him from across a hockey arena at Liberty University. And she liked what she saw. A lot. Within minutes, she had obtained his name and his cell phone number. Who can blame a girl for going after what she wants, right??!? She knew she had to come up with a plan to meet him right away, so she texted him, asking if it would be ok for her to hang out with him for the rest of the game. He happily agreed. They laughed and talked for the remainder of the game, and knowing that she didn’t want their time together to be over, she encouraged him to contact her later…should he want to hang out again. Later that evening, she received that text she had been waiting for asking her out for ice cream after church the following day. There, at an ice cream parlor, their relationship began to take shape, and they haven’t been apart since.
Shelby and Ryan had been together for four years when Shelby went out with her girlfriends for manicures, shopping, and lunch. It was a regular “girls day out” kind of day…nothing out of the ordinary. That is, until she returned to her apartment. Opening the door to her apartment, Shelby walked into 300 pink, white, and purple balloons. Among them were six red balloons. The balloons were accompanied by a note and a bouquet of flowers. The note instructed Shelby to pop each red balloon and read the note it contained. Each balloon held a note for Shelby sharing the reasons why Ryan was in love with her. When she got to the final red balloon, Shelby discovered an invitation to her future wedding with Ryan. When she turned around, Ryan was standing before her waiting to ask her a very important question. He looked Shelby in her eyes and asked her to be his. To allow him to be hers. And to spend all their days together. Shelby couldn’t have been more excited to say, “YES!”.
Shelby thought that the surprises were over, but Ryan had one more surprise up his sleeve. At that moment, Shelby’s entire family emerged from a bedroom. Then Ryan’s entire family emerged as well. Tears followed. Many, many happy tears… Then there were pictures and a celebratory dinner at Shelby’s favorite restaurant in Lynchburg, Virginia. Honestly, I don’t think the celebration has ever stopped. And who can blame them!?! This love is real, honest, and made for a lifetime. That is absolutely to be excited about!
Shelby and Ryan,
I am so excited for you two! It’s apparent to anyone who sees you together that it just works. And, I am so honored to be sharing this time with you. I enjoy your sweet, playful spirits, and I know your West Manor wedding will be amazing next June! Hope you love your photos! M xoxo
We started our session in downtown Charlottesville. It seems like every nook and cranny offered the perfect spot to stop and shoot.
And Shelby thought she couldn’t pull of a less smiley photo… Hmph.
Ryan can pull of the “serious” look, too!
Shelby and Ryan are so playful, and I thought the Community Chalkboard would be the perfect spot to include during their session. Super happy with the results. And the random kid they gave their left-over chalk to was pretty stoked, too.
Our last stop was a baseball field. Shelby and Ryan share a love for the sport, and again, it was a perfect representation of what they share and their personalities. Not to mention that Shelby had some pretty awesome shirts made! Love that their wedding date was included as well.
Good job on the ring, Ryan. Stunning!
Seriously. How cute are they!??!
